Rent Cuts

This bit came across the transom, appropriately, while we were on the third bloody mary of the morning at Micky Mantle’s on Central Park South (an atrocity of a sports bar with “7″ carved into every bar stool, but hey, there aren’t many choices for cocktails midtown on weekday mornings). At the Holland Court Meat Market on Lex at 93rd Street there resides a butcher named Joe DiMaggio. A couple of years ago Joe D recounted the sad tale of his relocation in a New York Sun article about the disappearance of old-school butcher shops and summed up the situation thus: “The rent keeps going up, but how much can you charge for a pound of chop meat?”

Spread the bloody truth.
